Finishing steps in our UNCE project - ,,Center of clinical and experimental liver surgery“

On October 30th, 2023, the last meeting of UNCE/MED/006 (University Center of Excellence) team was held at the Biomedical Center.

After finishing the six years‘ project, we are incredibly proud to announce the final number of publications in multiple research disciplines across the medical field. Certainly, this would not, be possible without the support of this grant, which enabled us to build and maintain a close and fruitful cooperation between the Charles University, Czech Academy of Sciences and the University of West Bohemia at the level of multiple teams, laboratories and individual researchers.

Such cooperation supported by funding from UNCE provided us with sufficient freedom to plan our research steps on longer horizon with more prospective consideration.

The results speak for themselves: 156 scientific papers dedicated to UNCE were published with, 115 of these in journals with an impact factor, reaching an aggregated IF of 568,40. Notably, 46 of these publications were Q1- rated journals. Within the framework of the project, several other projects were obtained, in particular 856620 ERA Chair Position for Excellent Research in Oncology; LX22NPO5102 National institute for cancer research, GAČR – 23-05609S – Explaining metastatic potential of colorectal cancer through whole-exome sequencing and immune cell and telomere landscape; AZV ČR – NU21-07-00247 - Concept of liquid biopsy in mapping of microRNA and oncogenic KRAS mutations for early diagnosis and risk assessment of pancreatic cancer; AZV ČR – NU20J-08-00009 - Prevention of intestinal anastomotic leakage and postoperative adhesions by using nanofibrous biodegradable materials. Members of our team also acquired 3 professorships, 3 habilitations, 5 PhDs and 1 DrSc.

We are thankful for the opportunity to develop further in the direction of an up-to-date approach to scientific research and hopefully we can look forward to tackling even bigger scientific challenges in future.

Huge thanks belong to everyone involved in the process, especially those who were behind the design of the original project and its current: prof. MUDr. Vladislav Třeška, DrSc., prof. MUDr. Mgr. Zbyněk Tonar, Ph.D., doc. RNDr. Pavel Souček, CSc., MUDr. Pavel Vodička, DrSc., prof. MUDr. Ondřej Daum, Ph.D., doc. MUDr. Hynek Mírka, Ph.D., doc. RNDr. Martin Pešta, Ph.D.

We believe that the results and experience acquired during this project will help all of the participants in their future professional lives!

On behalf of the team
